Why these words belong together

Pencil, paper, ruler, book, desk, board, lesson, teacher, chair, and clock are high-frequency classroom nouns. Most name physical objects, while lesson and teacher provide two useful exceptions for discussing people, activities, and things rather than treating every answer as an object.

For language practice, learners can locate each real item in the room, add an article where appropriate, or build instructions such as Put the book on the desk. Classroom equipment varies, so the custom maker is available for replacing board or clock with vocabulary that matches the actual learning space.

Ways to use this puzzle

  • Label which answers can be seen in the room and which are people or activities.
  • Practise short location phrases using book, desk, chair, board, and clock.
  • Make a personalised version based on the equipment learners use every day.

Difficulty and print notes

The Easy layout uses only horizontal and vertical placements. Book and desk are quick targets; pencil, lesson, and teacher share common letters that make careful endpoint checking useful.

Print one copy per learner and add the answer sheet to a teacher's activity pack.
