Why these words belong together

Winter, scarf, mittens, fireplace, cocoa, snowflake, boots, frost, sled, and blanket combine cold-weather clothing, conditions, objects, and comforts. The list describes one familiar kind of winter and is not intended to imply that every region has snow, sledding, or fireplaces.

Solvers can sort the answers into things worn, things seen outdoors, and things associated with warmth. Fireplace and snowflake provide long, distinctive letter patterns, while sled and boots are useful early targets. For a locally accurate activity, replace any unfamiliar item with weather or clothing from your own winter season.

Ways to use this puzzle

  • Group the completed words under keep warm, wear, weather, and outdoor activity.
  • Choose four answers to describe a winter scene without repeating the puzzle title.
  • Make a regional version for a winter that is rainy, mild, dark, snowy, or dry.

Difficulty and print notes

Although labelled Easy, this grid includes the long answers fireplace and snowflake. All placements remain forward, horizontal, or vertical, so length—not direction—is the main challenge.

Choose extra-large print for a roomier winter activity sheet and add answers on a second page.
